Description

Set in the heart of the village, Crossways Cottage is a cosy cottage perfect for a family holiday or weekend away. The cottage is just five minutes walk from the beach and walking distance from all the local amenities, which means you can enjoy a relaxing holiday without needing to drive anywhere.

Downstairs there's a spacious open plan living area with two comfortable sofas, TV, electric stove and dining table. The kitchen is well equipped with an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washer/dryer. Through the kitchen you'll find the downstairs bedroom which can either be made up as two x 2'6" single beds, or linked together as a kingsize double. There's also an ensuite WC with washbasin.

The traditional Norfolk Winder staircase (which some may find steep) leads up from the living area to a landing, and the upstairs bedroom which has a standard double bed. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over, WC and washbasin.

Outside there's a sheltered courtyard style garden which is part paved, part gravel with flowerbeds. There's outside seating including a dining table and chairs. The entrance to the cottage is via patio doors leading into a small conservatory which also has seating.

Crossways Cottage has off road parking for one car, with other free parking available nearby in the village. Up to three dogs are welcome at Crossways Cottage for no additional charge, and will enjoy the outside warm water dog shower - also useful for cleaning sand from human feet!

Location

Crossways Cottage is in the heart of Winterton-on-Sea, a pretty unspoilt village perched on the Norfolk Coast. It only takes 5 min to walk to long sandy beaches which are dog friendly all year round.

The local Fisherman’s Return pub (dog friendly) serves good food, and is a 2 minute walk from Crossways Cottage. Also in the village within walking distance you’ll find the village shop, Poppy’s post office and tea rooms (we can recommend the breakfasts), a fish & chip shop and Seal View café at the beach.

There’s an excellent choice of walks right from the doorstep, and Winterton Dunes is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From the end of November to the beginning of January it’s pupping season for the local grey seal colony, with literally thousands of them on Horsey beach just 10 mins drive from Winterton. It’s an amazing sight to see.

For cyclists there’s a great choice of routes and trails to enjoy. A little further afield the Norfolk Broads offers scenic boat trips or hire your own boat for the day. There’s also fishing, kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding available.

For families, the seaside town of Gt Yarmouth is only a 15 minute drive away, with a sandy beach, end of pier entertainment, Sea Life centre, amusement arcades, pleasure beach, bowling, cinemas, Venetian Waterways, crazy golf and much more. We also recommend the award winning BeWILDerwood an outdoor tree house adventure park with zip wires, jungle bridges, marsh walks and boat rides - just a 20 minute drive away near Horning. Wroxham Barns is nearby with independent shops, craft studios, a kids' farm, funfair and restaurant.

The fine city of Norwich is a 40 minute drive away, and offers shopping, museums, restaurants and a choice of theatres.

There’s a great choice of places to eat out locally including beachside cafes, local pubs and fine dining restaurants and we provide all guests with a comprehensive list in our digital welcome information.

My husband, golden retriever and me recently had the pleasure of staying at this charming little cottage, and I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations. Nestled in the perfect location, it felt like a home away from home, offering the ideal blend of tranquillity and accessibility. The cottage is tucked away in a peaceful, picturesque spot, yet just a stone throw away walk from local shop, Poppy café, and beautiful scenic coastal walking trails. It was the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area, yet also offered a sense of complete serenity. Inside, the cottage was wonderfully cosy, with every detail thoughtfully arranged. The warm décor, furnishings, and homey fireplace made it feel like the perfect retreat. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, very easy to communicate with, and had ensured that everything was just right—from the fluffy bedding to the well-equipped kitchen. It truly felt like a personal touch had been added to every corner. Plus it was decorated perfect for our Christmas weekend. I find myself already looking forward to returning again. Whether it's for another peaceful getaway or a chance to unwind, this cottage has definitely earned a spot at the top of my list. If you're seeking a cosy, well-located spot to recharge, this is the place!

This was our second stay at Crossways which says it all. The location is perfect, in the centre of the village and within a few minutes walk from the wonderful sand dunes and beach. The cottage is ideal if you have a dog, the throws provided for the sofas were a nice touch though I always take plenty of my own! Poppy’s tea rooms, the Fisherman’s Return (both dog friendly) and Winterton Fish and Chips can all be recommended. A.ready planning our next visit!

A stunning cottage. Owners were super helpful and texted as soon as we were able the access the property which was before 4pm. Did get the wow factor on arrival. So cosy, lovely decor, very homely. Even the shower curtain is washed and new for each new guest. Lots of lovely extras, dog bowls, blankets, hairdryer, clothes washing supplies. (Didn’t have to pack loads or bring home lots of dirty washing!) Box of Thorntons and milk on arrival to kick start us off. Lots of storage within the property. Plenty of spaces for hanging clothes and storing bags. Loved the coat stand in the conservatory and the underfloor heating was a bonus in there for wet dog towels and damp shoes. Will be purchasing a boot tray for home! We had a top box on our car but the car port was no problem at all if we drove in front first. The road is pretty quiet and the property has a mirror so we can see oncoming traffic. Plenty of space under the carport though if you wanted to remove it and store it there. Would thoroughly recommend. Stairs are quite steep (it’s a cottage after all) but there are plenty of hand rails and sensor lights to help, especially at night. My dad who struggles on his legs chose a different property with a walk in shower but thought he may have been better here with the downstairs bedroom and toilet and well supported stairs. Poppies was lovely for breakfast, the locals were super friendly and we had some nice chats. They are clearly and rightly keen to preserve the coast line and understand the dangers so out of respect, don’t let your children run up and down the beach sand walls. There are signs to help. All in all a super find with everything we wanted! Lost count of the amount of seals we saw. Thanks to the 2 Sarah’s for being so warm and welcoming!

The cottage that we stayed in was ideally located for the gorgeous beach. It had all that we needed and was particularly good for our two dogs, with bowls, sofa throws and treats provided. Would highly recommended to anyone with dogs who love beach walks!

Thank you for a great mini break (and the chocies/dog biscuits!), you made us all feel very welcome. Such a lovely clean quiet cottage with all the home comforts. Would highly recommend to all, dog or non dog owners! The owners of the cottage had put a great deal of thought into the facilities, much appreciated. Perfect location for walks on the dunes, beach or a visit to the excellent local chip shop (who cater for all, GF/Vegan).

Ideally located in the heart of Winterton on Sea, steps away from the beach and amenities, Crossways is a well appointed and comfortable cottage for 3-4 people. We were extremely lucky with the weather - a week of sunshine. Best of all, our cockapoo Honey loved the best dog beach we know. She came to Winterton at 6 months, and this is her fourth trip - she is now 10 - she turned into a puppy again, playing on the beach. This is the best cottage we stayed in the village, and would return happily next year. Everything in the cottage worked - the kitchen, the bathrooms, the TV, all great. One minor criticism - no outdoor BBQ. But still a 5* stay.

Our third time in Winterton, first at Crossways and can see no reason to stay anywhere else! Though in the centre of the village it is very quiet and with the beach, Poppy’s tea rooms, the fish and chip shop and pub all within easy walking distance it is the perfect holiday cottage. Angie provided plenty of information beforehand and kindly let us know that the cottage was ready earlier than we expected. Winterton is ideal for dog owners, the beach and dunes provide plenty of different walks and the tea rooms and pub are dog friendly. The cottage itself is clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious with a secure garden. Thank you Angie, we loved Crossways and will certainly be back!

Just returned from a lovely short break at Crossways. I've been visiting Winterton on and off over the last 50 years and it was lovely to stay in the centre of the village. Crossways is a lovely, welcoming cottage in a great location. Apart from the very welcome tea and coffee left for us on arrival, it was a nice surprise to find a box of chocolates too. Communication from Angie before and during our stay was great, and we loved the helpful little cards left around the property. Sadly our weather wasn't great for our whole stay, but the conservatory is great to sit in and relax when conditions prevent you exploring the many walks in the area. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our break at Crossways and look forward to our next visit to Winterton.
