Description

Full of character, April Cottage has been lovingly restored to provide stylish and well equipped accommodation.

Downstairs, the living room has comfortable sofas, TV/DVD, woodburning stove and patio doors leading to a sunny enclosed courtyard behind the cottage. The separate dining room features an original stone floor and leads through to the well equipped kitchen with an electric oven, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a microwave. The washing machine and dryer are in the outhouse which is just outside the stable style kitchen door.

Upstairs there are two beautifully appointed bedrooms. Bedroom one has a comfortable kingsize bed, and bedroom two has a standard double bed and a shower. The upstairs bathroom features a beautiful slipper bath for relaxing in, as well as a washbasin and WC. Please note that the quirky character of the cottage means the property is unsuitable for younger children under 10 years old.

At the side of the cottage is a gravelled parking area with space for one car, and there is free off road parking available nearby in the village. The parking area leads to a pretty cobbled courtyard with a bench, table and chairs. Up to 1 large dog or 2 medium/small dogs are welcome at April Cottage at no additional charge. Guests are welcome to use the free WiFi.

Location

April Cottage is in the heart of Winterton-on-Sea, a pretty unspoilt village perched on the Norfolk Coast. It only takes 5-10 min to walk to long sandy beaches which are dog friendly all year round.

The local Fisherman’s Return pub (dog friendly) serves good food, and is a 2 minute walk from April Cottage. Also in the village within walking distance you’ll find the village shop, Poppy’s post office and tea rooms (we can recommend the breakfasts), a fish & chip shop and Seal View café at the beach.

There’s an excellent choice of walks right from the doorstep, and Winterton Dunes is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From the end of November to the beginning of January it’s pupping season for the local grey seal colony, with literally thousands of them on Horsey beach just 10 mins drive from Winterton. It’s an amazing sight to see.

For cyclists there’s a great choice of routes and trails to enjoy. A little further afield the Norfolk Broads offers scenic boat trips or hire your own boat for the day. There’s also fishing, kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding available.

For families, the seaside town of Gt Yarmouth is only a 15 minute drive away, with a sandy beach, end of pier entertainment, Sea Life centre, amusement arcades, pleasure beach, bowling, cinemas, Venetian Waterways, crazy golf and much more. We also recommend the award winning BeWILDerwood an outdoor tree house adventure park with zip wires, jungle bridges, marsh walks and boat rides - just a 20 minute drive away near Horning. Wroxham Barns is nearby with independent shops, craft studios, a kids' farm, funfair and restaurant.

The fine city of Norwich is a 40 minute drive away, and offers shopping, museums, restaurants and a choice of theatres.

There’s a great choice of places to eat out locally including beachside cafes, local pubs and fine dining restaurants and we provide all guests with a comprehensive list in our digital welcome information.

We have stayed at April Cottage twice before. It is cosy and tastefully decorated with a comfortable sofa, beds, pillows and bedding. The wood burner is a lovely addition during the winter months. It is a short walking distance to the local pub and also near to the corner shop, post office, tea room and fish and chip shop. A five minute walk takes you to the expanse of sand dunes and another five to ten minutes to the beautiful beach. You can walk right through the middle of the dunes to Horsey one way and Hemsby the other or, of course, along the beach but not at seal time when the huge seal colony gathers. We always love our stay at April Cottage, thank you.

A lovely little cottage that provided everything we needed and in a great location close to the village center and a short walk to the Dunes. Dog friendly too!.....The outdoor space is very small and laid to concrete but very pleasant and private. Really appreciate the welcome gifts also.

We had a wonderful time staying in April cottage. The accommodation was comfortable and had everything needed to enjoy our week. The location perfect for the pub and all the amenities on offer in Winterton. Well worth visiting Hickling wildlife Centre and Horsey windpump, plus access to the P & R when we visited Norwich. Thank you. PS the welcome pack was a lovely surprise!
