The cottage is unique, well equipped, handily tucked away near the Fisherman's Return pub and within walking distance of everything Winterton has to offer for a week by the sea. The Cranny had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing holiday with the added bonus of a lovely wraparound garden which was safe and secure for our dog. We were worried that the village and beach would be too busy in mid August but it wasn't a problem. Everywhere was dog friendly with good signage on where to keep dogs on leads to avoid ground nesting birds or disturbance to wildlife. There was plenty of room on the long sandy beach to avoid the holiday makers and the little tern colony. We can highly recommend the walk along the beach to Horsey, watching the seals bobbing up along the way, lunch at the Nelson's Head and back via the National Nature Reserve
We found that both the cafes were excellent for an early breakfast before the day trippers arrived and that it's best to book at the pub to be sure of a table. We can also recommend the Fish and Chip shop with a top tip to order online to avoid the long queues at busy times.
We are already planning to return for an autumn/spring long weekend.

Although not our first visit and stay in Winterton on Sea, it was our first stay at The Cranny. It was great to find everything located so conveniently. Just around the corner from The Cranny, the Fishermans Return is only a few steps away. The local corner shop, the chip shop, Poppys Tea Room (great food) and Post office are all close. It's not too far to drive to the Co-op store if you are looking for a larger place to shop than the local store. The beach is a short walk away, across the dunes, to what I consider to be the best beach in Norfolk. My ten year old Cockapoo loves Winterton beach more than anywhere else. It was lovely to see a few seals bobbing about in the sea most days too. The Cranny itself had all the conveniences of home and the large garden was really lovely, with a couple of paved seating areas. Plenty of room for dogs to safely run around without fear of them escaping. We also visited Wroxham Barns, which is nice if you have young children as there is also a small animal farm within the site. Poppylands, a 1940's tea room, in Horsey, was well worth the visit, decked out with Union Jacks and old war memorabilia. The lunch we had there was very good. Would have loved to stay in Winterton for another week!

The Cranny is a beautiful, unusual home, in a lovely village. We absolutely loved it. Lovely walks on the doorstep, including the dunes and the beach which are wonderful and a very nice pub nearby with great meals.
It was freezing when we arrived and we had some problems getting the heating to come on, but the wonderful and very helpful Kim, the housekeeper, helped us to get it going. Even though the weather was fresh we could sit out in the lovely, sheltered garden when we arrived back every day. Altogether an absolutely fabulous place to stay.

We stayed in the Cranny with my 91year old mum and it was lovely. Great quaint little cottage with everything we needed, comfortable beds and very clean. The garden was completely private and enclosed and weather being kind to us we managed to sit outside most days. Great location 5 minutes walk from beautiful clean beach with beach cafe and toilets, Poppys tea room located inside post office and convenience store and fish and chip shop again all within 5 minutes walk. Local pub Fisherman’s return only few minutes walk so all amenities were easy to get to with elderly lady with mobility walker and scooter. Easy access to Great Yarmouth with its lovely promenade plus plenty of other places to visit. Would definitely recommend and we will be back 🌸

We had a lovely stay at The Cranny.. it’s a unique property in the middle of the village, close to the pub, shop and Fish&Chip shop… it’s also a minutes walk from the dunes.. it is well equipped and comfortable and unusually has a tv in each bedroom as well as the lounge which we found handy… it has a secure garden for a dog and off road parking.. the owners kindly left us some lovely goodies on arrival as well as a much welcomed bottle of milk in the fridge.. this is my second stay at this property and I have no doubt it won’t be my last.. I highly recommend

Had a great time at The Cranny. A beautiful cottage set in the lovely village of Winterton. The cottage was well equipped and with a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The beach, dunes, chip shop and, of course, the pub were all just minutes away. The garden provided a great enclosed space for the doggie to relax after his walks in the surf. Would highly recommend The Cranny and we would definitely stay here again.

This was out fifth visit to Winterton but our first stay at the Cranny what a lovely place it is The housekeepers should be congratulated on the cleanliness and presentation of the property throughout. The garden also was lovely which our Labrador loved. The weather was kind after a 'shakey' start and we visited places that we have been to before but this time found Sherringham Park which we enjoyed walking the trails and the superb views. Hospitality at the Fisherman's was first class as usual with excellent food as always. We are very taken with this area of the country and will no doubt be back again, hopefully soon.

What a fabulous cottage. I was on my own with 2 dogs. It was so homely and exceptionally clean. The garden was a great bonus, which the dogs loved. So close to the beach and dunes for great walks with the dogs. Good pub not far, and brilliant fish and chip shop. Didn't get chance to go into Poppy's, but perhaps next time. Excellent welcome pack. Hopefully I will be back.
