Description

At the front of the cottage, a small enclosed gravel garden leads to the front door, opening directly into a welcoming open-plan living and kitchen area. Thoughtfully decorated in calming shades of blue and teal, the living room offers comfortable seating for four around a wood-burning stove and TV — perfect for cosy evenings in.

The tiled kitchen area is well equipped with an electric oven, hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, dining table and chairs. Beyond the kitchen, a useful porch provides storage space for coats and shoes by the back door. From here, you’ll find the modern ground-floor bathroom, complete with a bath and shower over, washbasin and WC.

Upstairs, there are two comfortable bedrooms: one with a standard double bed and the other with a 4ft-wide double bed.

Through the back door, you’ll step into a small enclosed courtyard, with access to the outhouse opposite where you’ll find a washing machine and freezer.

Parking is available for one car on the road directly beside the cottage, with additional parking nearby on Old Chapel Road. Two dogs are warmly welcomed free of charge.

Location

1 Old Chapel Cottages is a very short walk from the dunes, dog friendly beach and other local amenities in the village of Winterton-on-Sea. Winterton-on-Sea is a pretty unspoilt village perched on the Norfolk Coast, with long sandy beaches which are dog friendly all year round.

The local Fisherman’s Return pub (dog friendly) serves good food, the village also has a local shop, Poppy’s post office and tea rooms (we can recommend the breakfasts), a fish & chip shop and Seal View cafe at the beach.

There’s an excellent choice of walks right from the doorstep, and Winterton Dunes is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From the end of November to the beginning of January it’s pupping season for the local grey seal colony, with literally thousands of them on Horsey beach just 10 mins drive from Winterton. It’s an amazing sight to see.

For cyclists there’s a great choice of routes and trails to enjoy. A little further afield the Norfolk Broads offers scenic boat trips or hire your own boat for the day. There’s also fishing, kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding available.

For families, the seaside town of Gt Yarmouth is only a 15 minute drive away, with a sandy beach, end of pier entertainment, Sea Life centre, amusement arcades, pleasure beach, bowling, cinemas, Venetian Waterways, crazy golf and much more. We also recommend the award winning BeWILDerwood an outdoor tree house adventure park with zip wires, jungle bridges, marsh walks and boat rides - just a 20 minute drive away near Horning. Wroxham Barns is nearby with independent shops, craft studios, a kids' farm, funfair and restaurant.

The fine city of Norwich is a 40 minute drive away, and offers shopping, museums, restaurants and a choice of theatres.

There’s a great choice of places to eat out locally including beachside cafes, local pubs and fine dining restaurants.

Spent five days at 1 Old Chapel Cottages, and we found the cottage to be very warm, comfortable and well equipped. We had our two, lively spaniels with us so it was great to have the dunes and beach so close by, and the village of Winterton has a decent shop, pub, cafe and a very good fish and chip shop. The cottage has only a small patio at the back and another at the front, enough to sit and have a coffee in but nowhere for the dogs to run around, but the dunes are very close by so that was not a major problem. Very good value, so long as you can manage without a larger garden.

We had a fabulous few days in your beautiful cosy cottage . It was in a great location to access the dunes, we loved seeing the seals , very handy for the little shop and the yummy fish & chip shop too. The cottage itself was very clean and comfy for the 3 of us and had everything we needed and more . We loved the wood burner when we returned from a cold walk on the beach and the boot/ utility room outside was perfect for sorting our two dogs out and getting out of muddy / wet wellies at the end of the day. Thankyou for letting us stay , we wouldn’t hesitate in staying again .

We had a lovely 4 night stay. The cottage suited us perfectly. Christmas decorations up for a stay in the first few days of December was a nice touch! Sadly the fish and chip shop was closed when we were there but we had a good meal at the local pub. Corner shop had plenty of supplies should they have been needed. We will definitely be returning.

Booked this cottage last minute based on recommendations. It was absolutely lovely. There was just me and my dogs and it was perfect, everything I needed, warm and comfortable. The location though was the icing on the cake just a short stroll to the dunes and the most beautiful beach where I was often the only human there (occasionally accompanied by seals!) Village shops had everything you might need - lovely doggy treats in the tearoom. I will definitely be back

Beautiful little cottage. We were so pleased with everything on arrival and the welcome basket was a nice touch too. The village is also very nice and people are friendly. Dogs being welcome at the cottage (and on the beach) made things even better. This is a really good base for visiting Norfolk and we highly recommend a good mooch around the coast, as there are plenty of great beaches to choose from along the way. Get booking and have some fun.

Lovely cottage, everything we needed for our short break. Very quiet area - with an easy walk to the dunes, Norfolk Coastal Path & great food in the local pub (5 minutes walk away!) The cottage was very homely, some fantastic decoration & lovely pictures. Very clean - and the welcome basket was a very nice touch.
