  • Well what can I say! Just had a Fab Four day break staying here altho to be fair I basically only slept here and had breakfast as I was too busy exploring with my dog.fab quaint cottage exactly as described including the original stairs which once you master them become “normal” well equipped if you wish to cook up a storm (I decided I wasn’t cooking during my stay) the four poster bed is so comfy, all the furnishings are within keeping for the cottages age. The garden is perfect very private and I spent most mornings eating breakfast watching the squirrel cavort around and listening to the birdsong. The bird Bath is regularly used so I kept it topped up a watering can is by the tap for this purpose. The flowers and shrubs were plentiful tho the daffs had started to die off but the tulips blossomed whilst I was there. The beach is a five min stroll and you can spend all day walking in the dunes. The pub is literally out the gate turn right then past three cottages and voila you’re there, so dog friendly, good food and friendly staff. The chip shop has new owners and my fish and chips was delish. Oops nearly forgot Poppy’s tearooms where I had lunch one day again delish, the little corner shop has literally everything you could need too. The whole village is friendly and extremely dog friendly to boot. Ideal break for a single traveller plus dog like me or a couple with or without a dog. Deffo recommend ships timbers and big thumbs up for winterton. Ps thanks for the Norfolk cookies in the welcome basket very moorish

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at Ships Timbers. The cottage is absolutely full of character with old beams , a thatched roof and enchanting cottage garden. All rooms are a nice size and superbly decorated, within immediate walking distance from a lovely pub (Fishermans Return) and fantastic beach (loved by our 2 German Pointers).

The only thing to note (and not a problem to us) was the steep stairs to the bedroom - they were unique and very quaint, but you will need to be very mobile to climb these.

  • We had a lovely relaxing break at Ships Timbers over the long Easter weekend. We had everything we needed for our stay and enjoyed the walks on the beach nearby. We also were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the sunshine and flowers in the lovely enclosed garden.

  • Just returned from a week at Ship's Timbers, the weather was wild and wonderful and the cottage was just perfect. A cosy place to stay after long walks on the beach and very close to everything that Winterton has to offer. It is so unusual to find a place for just two people that is this cute! The garden was pretty with lots of spring flowers and very private. I will definitely be re-booking!

  • We had a very relaxing stay at Ship's Timbers. Cosy and traditional, we were very comfortable there. The garden was beautiful with spring flowers in bloom, delightful. The cottage was well placed for our frequent visits to the Fisherman's Return, the dogs knew the way! And the dunes being close by was brilliant for giving the dogs a good run. Not too far from the broads for a change of scene also. Can definitely recommend this cottage.

  • Stayed at Ship's Timbers a number of times before - it's as lovely as always. Love the charm of that winder staircase, the kitchen is perfect for us and the sitting room cosy. Bed comfy too and pillows just right (many places seem to go in for giant pillows with no "give"). The garden is so practical yet pretty with spring daffs and snowdrops. Even camellia in bloom. Location cannot be beaten - a minute to the dunes and by the pub and shop/cafe. The terrace next door was being re-thatched, so that was interesting to watch for us townies. Glad to find dog bowls supplied as forgot ours. Brilliant place to stay with our dog.

  • What a lovely, cosy little cottage - and in a great location in the centre of the village down a quiet street. I had such an enjoyable few days exploring the area and wandering in the dunes, enjoying the singing of the seals. The cottage was so snug and sheltered that I wasn't even aware of storm Barra raging outside.

  • First time at Winterton on Sea and Ship's Timbers and it certainly will not be our last! What a beautiful place, just what we needed. Yes the stairs of this property may not be suitable for all, but for us it just added to the charm of this cottage. Was left with a warm affection for this place, can't wait to return.

  • We stay in Winterton 3-4 times a year if we can, it’s just the perfect place to get away to. 1st time in Ship’s Timbers. Great little cottage in perfect location. Nice garden big enough for two of us and our two dogs. Stairs can be a challenge (especially with a few Guinness on board) but it’s all part of the character. Nice kitchen and bathroom, and overall a lovely place to stay.

  • Numerous times at Winterton but first time at Ship's Timbers. The cottage is lovely and cosy and plenty of room for two and a dog. It is ideally situated to local amenities ie chip shop, pub, shop and beach. The cookies, teabags, coffee and jam was much appreciated as most people are ready for a drink after a long journey. Even though the weather was a mixed bag, that didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves. To sum things up Ship's Timbers is a beautiful little cottage situated in a lovely quiet village but if you prefer it a bit more noisy than you can go to Hemsby which is only about half an hours walk along the beach, or you can catch the bus into Yarmouth from the village green and it takes takes about 45 minutes to get there

  • Our second stay in Winterton and first in this cottage. It is a perfect little character seaside property and we would stay here again in a heartbeat. It is close to the sand dunes and beach, as well as the pub, shops and tearoom. It is small but enough room for a couple. The stairs were as described but my partner is tall and managed to avoid banging his head. The garden is very private (and the weather good) so we spent a lot of time sitting outside.

  • Have forgotten how many times we have stayed at Ships Timbers now, but we always come away very refreshed & wishing our time away had only just begun (there’s a song about that somewhere). It’s a lovely cosy cottage, close to everything Winterton-on-Sea has to offer, yet still nestled away in a quiet little corner. Our 2 dogs loved it & the private garden is plenty big enough to sit out in the cool of a summers evening. Lovely new fitted kitchen, with a slightly lower fitted ‘butler’ sink, perfect for the vertically challenged. Ships Timbers is always our place to go 5*****+

  • Ships Timbers was just perfect for our first holiday without children. It was well equipped for our week stay and our big 8 year old labradoodle loved the secure and beautiful garden. We could relax in the very private and peaceful garden surrounded by nature. It is a stone throw away from the beach, pub and shop and was perfect for our walking excursions along the beach and to The Broads. The stairs to the bedroom is steep, we had no problem but as mentioned it will not suit everyone. We will definitely return for another peaceful and relaxing break. Can’t really put in words how beautiful and charming it is!

  • Have just returned from a wonderful weekend, our first time in Winterton-on-Sea and the perfect little Ships Timbers. Beautiful cottage which is thoughtfully decorated. Lovely welcome treats for us and the dogs. The cottage was clean, cosy, quaint and fully equipped. Perfectly situated for the pub, beach, chippy and cafe. We have already booked to return to Winterton, this time with the children so sadly not staying at Ships Timbers, but we would definitely stay here again when it’s just the two of us.

    — Zoe, 19 Feb 2020
  • Ships Timbers was a delight with well equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room and an attractive and comfortable four poster bed. Tastefully decorated and had a real homely feel. It was perfectly situated for the beach, cafe, shops and pub! The garden was perfect for the dogs and secure. We even got used to the quaint stairs! Loved the area and great walks, our favourite being along the coastal walk to Hemsby for tea and huge slice of cake for just £3 and a sit in the sun before walking back along the beach. We look forward to returning to beautiful Winterton and this cosy cottage x

  • Just returned home from our second stay in Ships Timbers so far this year & we cant but help to want to be back there again. It’s such a cosy beautiful little cottage. Made better only by the lovely weather we had 10-17 May. For the birders who might visit, the Dartford Warblers were showing their heads, as well as Stonechats, Yellowhammers, Little Terns, Linnets & the inevitable ‘little brown jobs’. There were Wrens nesting in the garden, so we had to move to the other side so as not to disturb them, while we sat in the sun with a cuppa. Our dog Bonnie loves it just as much as we do & her ‘fit bark’ has never had so many miles recorded on it in a week. A must place to visit is Fairhaven Water Gardens, about 9 miles away in South Walsham & is also dog friendly. The Fisherman’s Return is also a must, we’ve made so many friends there, both staff & customers, it almost feels like our local........ & Bonnie knows they have Biscwits for her. Simply put both Ships Timbers & Winterton are wonderful. 5*****+

  • This is probably our 3rd time in Winterton, and like some other reviewers, our first time in Ship's Timbers. It certainly is a cute little cottage and just as described in the details given above. The garden is 100% secure (with a side gate for access onto the property), so perfect for our nosey Beagles. The garden isn't overlooked, either, as there are tall trees to 1 side and a good fence on the other, so a nice, private area for sitting out and there is a nice little set of table and chairs in the garden to allow you to enjoy the sunshine and peace and quiet.
Inside, entry is into a small hallway, with the downstairs bathroom off to the side. The hall leads into the well-equipped kitchen, which has a good oven and hob, but no washing machine, but not an issue. The living room is a good size, with a double sofa and large armchair and a small dining table - ideal for 2 people. The stairs are a bit of a challenge, but nothing that isn't clearly stated in the details. My wife took an interesting photo of the split level, showing the bedroom and the living room in the same shot!
The location is perfect, as less than 5 minutes to the dunes and then the beach beyond. The chippy, post office / cafe & shops as well as the pub are about 2 minutes away.
The parking is spot on for even an estate car.
Winterton is a lovely little village and this cottage is chocolate box lovely. Just watch the stairs :)

  • We have been to Winterton 6/7 times now but first time in this cottage we stayed at Ships Timbers from 3rd - 8th March 2019. We had a wonderful few days. A beautiful little cottage with all you need and a safe enclosed garden which was great for the dogs. I will say stairs are steep but manageable, but it does say that on cottage information. Perfect for the two of us and our dogs. Winterton is such a lovely place, very friendly and dog friendly and such lovely walks. Cottage is in a perfect position for beach and pub. And I must say Rachel who looks after cottage was so helpful.

  • Ships Timbers is in a good location for the Beach, Pub, village shop and the Chippy. The garden is a good size for any size of dog, which is enclosed and secure. The cottage had everything we needed, the stairs are very steep as stated in the cottages details, but you do eventually get the hang of them. Parking was good. Would stay again.

  • Having been visiting Winterton some 14 years now, of the 7 other properties we’ve had, Ships Timbers just has to be the best we’ve stayed in & have already booked up for next year. From the welcome pack, dog bowls & biscuits, to the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in for ages, it really is a little thatched piece of Winterton that should not be missed. Very close to everything you need, with the beach, Fishermans Return & of course the Dunes Cafe. The lovely sun trap of the rear garden, not forgetting how peaceful it is there, just loved sitting there with a cuppa, chilling out after a tiring day on the beach with the hound dawg. We really can’t wait to go back again. 5*****+ & probably 10 from Bonnie.

  • What can I say about Ships Timbers? Well we absolutely loved this cottage it was perfect for us and the dogs and had everything we needed for our stay even a bowl of doggie biscuits for the pooches. Add to that the fact that we were so lucky with the weather it was a perfect stay and I cannot wait to return. We have booked with Rachel via Winterton Cottages before so had no worries whatsoever. Thanks again Rachel and please tell the owners if they ever want to sell ................

  • I would like to say what a lovely holiday we had in Winterton staying at the ships timbers. The cottage was delightful and really homely, the welcome pack was an unexpected surprise 😊 We had never been to Norfolk before and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our dogs loved the walks, especially the beach. We will definitely be returning, and ships timbers was perfect for us. Thank you for making our holiday so memorable
