  • I stayed here Easter bank holiday weekend, with my husband, two children 12 and 16 and our dog. We had a lovely stay, and the house had everything we could need. We enjoyed the boardgames available in the evenings and walks on the beach during the days. The house really is just a minute or two away from the dunes. The house was clean and spacious and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. Hopefully we will be back in the future!

  • We had a lovely few days staying in this charming characterful cottage which is very spacious and light. The kitchen is very well-equipped and it was a bonus to have the cloakroom/utility room area too. The location is perfect with the local pub a few minutes' walk away together with Poppy's cafe at the Post Office which offers a lovely choice of food and drink. Our dog also enjoyed his stay there, especially being so close to the sand dunes and lovely beach. Would thoroughly recommend.

  • We’ve stayed in a number of holiday properties around Winterton and this is by far the best! So close to the beach, great facilities and the hot & powerful showers a dream, us two adults, our baby and two dogs loved it here. Can’t wait to come back again soon!

  • We LOVE this place. Have stayed on more than one occasion. The location is perfect, a stones throw from the beach. Great local pub for dinner. The cottage is a beautiful space with everything you could need and the multiple bathrooms an added bonus. The owners are amazing too!!! We accidentally left a few belongs in a drawer and they kindly contacted us and reunited them to us. We will definitely visit again!

  • Just home from a weeks stay at The Old Village Shop and a great time was had by all! The cottage was roomy enough for the 6 of us (plus dog) and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Lovely meals enjoyed just a few minutes walk away and a corner shop nearby. Daily walks on the dunes which were on our doorstep really added to to our holiday.

  • Another excellently presented house in Winterton, 5 visits all in different properties. Everything you’ll need for a great stay is provided at the house & although there were only 2 of us able to make it there is plenty of space for 6 people to live comfortably. Thanks to the owners for responding to the minor issue we had immediately. We’d recommend the property for a relaxed stay.

  • We loved our stay at the Old Village shop, wonderful cottage, so cosy, clean and everything you need, short walk over the dunes to the beautiful beach. Seals bobbing along, pub round corner, nice food, fish snd chip shop, best fish snd chips we had in a while only 2 mins walk away, would definitely be going back, we both loved it and our daschund Honey did to.

  • We had a delightful stay in this wonderful home from home. The extra special welcome basket with goodies for dog and teens not forgetting mum and dad was such a lovely touch and most welcome. Thank you. The house is really special and fully equipped to enjoy your holiday. So close to the beach and the village pub. Beds are super comfy with lovely bedding. We had a lovely half term break and will definitely stay again.

  • Thank you so much for sorting our holiday out at such short notice. We had an amazing time at Winterton and as regards to the accommodation what can I say except WOW! What a beautiful cottage it is. I don't know what it was like before the owners altered the cottage but all I can say is that no expense has been spared and all you're creature comforts has been for. Once again i would like to say a BIG thankyou and wouldnt hesitate in booking with you again.

  • Wow, what can I say? An absolutely lovely property, a stone's throw away from the beach. The property is spacious clean and fully equipped with everything you could ever need. The fact the old village shop has been maintained complete with authentic window display is a lovely touch.

  • The Old Village Shop is a delight and ideal for family hilodays. It's comfortable and extremely well equipped. The location is ideal, being only a short walk from the splendid beach whilst also being very handy for the village shops, pub and other local amenities. The third bedroom with its own bathroom and separate access is a great solution for the more senior members of the family needing a little more peace and quiet.

  • Wonderful stay at The Old Village Shop, this was our 7th stay in this village and our 10th to Norfolk, Winterton is definitely our favourite.
The cottage was very comfortable and clean inside. The cottage is extremely well equipped, everything you could possibly want, even kids buckets, spades etc. for the beach, which the Grandchildren loved. Everything was kitted out with high quality items.

The village is excellent, the Fisherman’s Return is great and a lovely menu, Fish and Chip shop is brilliant, post office has a lovely little café. We found a great playground for the kids which they loved. The beach is so close and fantastic for kids, adults and dogs. In the sea a lot ,sharing with the seals who kept bobbing up to try and understand what us humans were playing at 😀

We went to a quiz evening at the Hermanus, which was very good, the kids spent all the time outside on the adventure playground, which was great. Definitely recommend The Old Village Shop and Winterton.

  • Easter Weekend 2022. What a lovely holiday home! We have had such a lovely time exploring the area, going for lovely walks along the beach and dunes, and taking a trip to the Norfolk broads and renting a boat for the day. The house is lovely and kitted out with everything you need for a BBQ, picnic and taking it easy. We will definitely be back soon!

  • Back for our second visit to The Old Village Shop and loved it just as much, if not more! We were able to settle straight back in. The dogs loved the dunes and beaches, as did the humans! We look forward to the next visit. Thank you for the warm welcome again. The While family.

  • A wonderful week in Winterton-On-Sea, despite the storms! The ‘Old Village Shop’ has everything you could need for a relaxing holiday, and we immediately felt at home. We loved the long walks from the doorstep and the views of the beach are just stunning.
Visiting the seals at Horsey was the highlight of the week and we’d recommend the circular walk from Horsey wind pump.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your home. We hope to have the chance to stay again in the future!

  • First time staying at The Old Village Shop and it won’t be the last! Very comfortable, well equipped and ideally located for everything that makes a great holiday. Our labrador, Smith, also enjoyed his stay with direct access to a lovely garden and not far from the beach. We were lucky with the weather and had a lovely half term hols. Thank you for sharing your lovely house.

  • We had a lovely stay at the end of November. The cottage was clean & there is everything you need. Great to have the stair gate, for keeping our dog downstairs. It’s perfect for walking the dog on the dunes or nearby beaches. Also great for walking round the corner to the shops & pub, where we received warm welcomes! We had a very comfortable & relaxing stay, & the owner was very responsive when we reported an issue with the outside hose, & it was resolved straight away. The only small thing that wasn’t so good for us was the fact that the main room has a beige carpet - with a dog, during winter, this is such a worry! Fortunately we took lots of towels with us & spread them over the carpet when we came in from outside. But we would prefer a more dog-friendly floor! Otherwise, it was perfect!

  • We love Winterton on Sea and really enjoyed staying at The Old Village Shop. Just an unassuming looking terrace house from the outside but it is like a Tardis!!! The rooms go on and on! Plenty of space for our family of 6. The house is well kept, nicely renovated, very clean and well equipped. With a fully enclosed garden it’s ideal for our four legged friends!! The owners very responsive helping us set the underfloor heating. A very generous arrival basket of goodies waiting for us which was very much appreciated!! Would highly recommend.

  • The old village shop is a lovely cottage, home from home. The kitchen had everything you would need and more, there were games for indoors & out & if you have young children everything you could need for the beach. We were close to everything, Poppy's Tea Room, well worth a visit, the Fisherman's Return, lovely food & the fish & chip shop. The sand dunes were a couple of minutes walk, we took our dog their twice a day for walks. The beach was close as well, we saw seals when we were there. We had a fabulous week and will definitely be back.

  • The Old Village Shop can only be described as EXCEPTIONAL in every way throughout the property. Comfortable with some very nice touches here and there. We were fortunate with the weather and the accommodation was ideally situated for touring around the Norfolk villages and of course the Broads.

Apart from the first night we ate at the Fishermans Return but there was everything one would need in the house if preparing and cooking meals. The bed was extremely comfortable for a good nights sleep and the continuous supply of hot water was ideal for showers etc The garden area was lovely as well, again with everything you needed. . All in all a 'Home from Home', a nice touch was the basket of 'goodies' and a bottle of wine.

We were particularly taken with the replica of the old shop window and its contents and could clearly see where the door used to be. One can imagine an almost 'Aladins Cave' like set up in the room behind.

This is the second time we have stayed in Winterton and we will be back

    Regards Roger and Steve

  • We loved the place. We spent a few summers in Winterton when the girls were younger in nearby cottages. None of the cottages were as beautifully done out as this; excellent and peaceful place with all the facilities you could wish for. Quality furnishings, spacious and just a stones throw from the village and 5 minutes from the beach. Genuinely no down sides. We loved our week away and this cottage was the perfect place to relax and enjoy it from. Thank you Winterton Cottages, Ralph & Karla.

  • The cottage was beautiful. Everything we could wish for in a holiday cottage. Quiet and comfortable.. just perfect. Restored, we believe as Lilian as would’ve liked! My eldest daughter, Maisie (20) loved having her own secret stairway and bathroom! She’s currently doing a ecology and conservation degree at Bournemouth University, so we spent a lot of time on the dunes looking at species of butterflies, dragonflies etc..

My other daughters (twins) loved the beach and seeing the seals. Also, the pull of Norwich and the shops couldn’t be ignored. We also caught up with relatives In Sheringham and Norwich too. We recommend How Hill if anyone fancies a walk along the broads or nature trails. Free parking!

Big thanks to owners, and I’m sure we will be back in Winterton soon.

  • We fell in love with this little house in Winterton. First of all it’s newly renovated and it feels like a total treat from start to finish. You can tell that someone has put a lot of thought into this house being a proper base, as it’s got a fully equipped kitchen (including a large fridge freezer), every utensil you could ever need and even a bbq with utensils. The sofa is comfy and has a smart TV for lazy mornings/evenings and there was lots of room for Jenson (our pup) to run around even if he wasn’t allowed upstairs. We had a really chilled week with a couple of beach days at Winterton and a couple on the broads. Book ahead of you want to take a boat on the broads, we wrongly thought that off peak would mean lots of availability! We’ll be back, it was perfect!

    — Stephanie , 28 Jun 2021
  • What a lovely house . Ideally located close to the beach. Lovely layout with two upstairs bathrooms, my teenage son loved the secret stairs. Garden lovely and games and dvd's a lovely touch.

Winterton is truly lovely and we are coming again in the summer (to the house next door) x

  • We had a lovely week at the Old Village Shop which is immaculate and very well equipped. We have always loved the area and will certainly return to this property. We did have an issue with the cooker but the owners were straight round to sort it, much appreciated. Would definitely recommend staying here.

  • After two failed attempts to come to Winterton due to lockdown Covid restrictions, we were fortunate to be offered The Old Village Shop and be the first guests in this newly refurbished holiday cottage! Furnishings and all equipment were of really high quality, making our stay here comfortable and 'home from home'. Few eating places were open so most meals were eaten at the cottage. There was everything provided! The dunes and the beach were perfect for walking the dogs. Horsey Gap was amazing, the number of seals basking on the shoreline a few feet form us! West Runton for fossil hunting and a trip on the Broads in a little self driven picnic boat were fab too! The weather was perfect - sunny days with wall to wall blue skies. A fantastic 'post lockdown' therapy! Will definitely recommend.
